But the absence of a red wave may have a silver lining for Republicans
Although the final results of the US mid-term elections are still not in, it appears at present that the Republicans will win the House of Representatives with a smaller majority than had been predicted while the Senate result is too close to call.
It therefore seems as if the widely predicted “red wave” has turned out to be more of a trickle.
A lot of people who were already writing about the total collapse of the Democrats and what the Republicans would do with their smashing victory are now looking extremely foolish. Stand by for recriminations and excuses — and further claims and counter-claims about the inherent left-wing bias of postal votes and the breakdown of voting machines.
Regardless of the truth of any of that, the absence of a red wave could turn out to have a silver lining for Republicans. Here’s why.
