The sickening Sussexes' psychodrama
They are the ultimate exemplars of today’s twisted victim culture
A cultural divide has opened up between Britain and America over Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
In America, polling suggests that most people absolutely buy the Sussexes’ claim that Meghan has been the victim of racist callousness and indifference by the Royal Family. This plays into the cartoonish caricature of royalty that so many Americans — who seem unable to grasp the subtle realities of a constitutional monarchy — unfortunately appear to believe is true.
In Britain, by contrast, most people believe that the picture painted by Meghan and her bamboozled and bitter husband is utter rubbish. They know that the late Queen and the new King — the former Prince Charles — have consistently shown a generous and open-minded approach towards people of colour and all minorities.
The public remember the warmth and enthusiasm with which the country embraced Meghan as Harry’s bride. They recall the solicitous way in which Prince Charles offered Meghan his arm as he walked her down the aisle at her wedding.
They recall their disapproval as Meghan and Harry repeatedly refused to do the minimal duties that are expected of people in their royal position, such as revealing the details of baby Archie’s birth or showing the new-born to the people for one very limited photo-op.
Since then, they have been sickened and horrified by the couple’s vilification of Britain and the Royal Family, the gross disloyalty and disrespect they showed the Queen, their callousness as they attacked Harry’s father and brother while Prince Philip was dying, their cynicism in filming private family moments in order to broadcast them for immense monetary gain while relentlessly complaining that the media was invading their privacy.
All this and more has so angered the British public that the vast majority now believe the Sussexes should be stripped of their titles.
The King, however, has so far kept his powder dry. The Royal Family’s strategy in the face of this never-ending onslaught is to say nothing at all in response. Now Harry and Meghan are complaining that the family hasn’t acknowledged their complaints, apologised and sought reconciliation.
Is this not the very definition of chutzpah?!
Consider. The Sussexes have unleashed a vicious character assassination of Harry’s father and brother. They reportedly upset the late Queen while she was nearing the end of her life.
They have accused the royal household of racism, cruelty and indifference with no evidence to back up such claims and with numerous examples of demonstrable falsehoods or distortions. They have monetised their royal brand while disdaining and trashing its obligations. They have produced an interminable, spiteful scream of jealousy, narcissism and rage with the intention to hurt and destroy.
Yet they now expect the royal family to apologise to them?
