The state funeral of the Queen today will surely never be forgotten by anyone who watched it all.
Of course it was a magnificent spectacle, far greater than any of us could have imagined, a spectacle of extraordinary beauty and splendour. The grandeur itself heightens emotions. The good-hearted affection, respect and sadness of so many ordinary people lining the streets was intensely touching. The service in Westminster Abbey was magnificent. But that was merely the start.
What really caught the breath over and over again was what followed.
