Details of the plan to massacre Manchester's Jews illustrate the danger of outlawing "Islamophobia"
The British government is determined to introduce a measure outlawing “Islamophobia”. Since this nonsensical neologism was coined by the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood to suppress any criticism of Islam or the Muslim world, this is causing justifiable alarm in many quarters.
Last week, three Muslims were jailed for a planned terrorist attack that would have killed hundreds of Jews in Manchester in what would have been one of the worst ever such atrocities on British soil.
Despite the potential enormity of this attack and its chilling implications about the nature and extent of Islamist extremism in Britain, it’s given rise to virtually no anxious analysis or impassioned commentary in the mainstream media following the ending of the trial last December. That relative silence would be muted even further by the proposed outlawing of “Islamophobia”.
Prejudice against any group is to be condemned. But the informal use of “Islamophobia” as a smear inflicting reputational damage has long acted as an effective tool to stifle essential public discourse.
Defining it and formalising it as a form of banned speech would censor vital information and comment about political jihadi Islam — the attempt by Islamists to conquer the west by terrorism, an expanding birthrate and cultural encroachment through weaponising the democratic process. It would also silence all-too necessary discussion about the Jew-hatred that’s a staple of the Islamic world.
In February last year, the Labour government set up a working group to deliver a definition of “anti-Muslim hatred/Islamophobia”. As the Free Speech Union (FSU) has noted, the group is believed to have reached a conclusion in October, although its report hasn’t seen the light of day.
Leaks confirmed by one group member suggest that, instead of using the term “Islamophobia,” it’s trying to deflect the hostility against that word by defining instead “anti-Muslim hostility”. Since that would capture in the same trap much if not most of the necessary discourse about the Islamic world, it would scarcely represent any improvement.
Alarm is also being generated by the attempt to use the definition to invest Muslims with the status of a people in order to provide them with even more impunity, even though Islam is merely a religion and not an ethnicity or a nation.
Now an investigation by the FSU’s director of policy and research, David Rose, has shown how the government’s supposedly objective inquiry was rigged from the start.
When setting up the working group, the government said its members had been chosen as “reflective of a wide range of perspectives and priorities for British Muslims”. But as Rose shows in this report, Anti-Free Speech Hostility: The Islamist Links of the Government’s Working Group on Islamophobia, such a claim was totally bogus. There was one dominant perspective and priority — Islamist extremism.
Rose writes of the working group’s members that “all, to a greater or lesser extent, have had links either to Islamist individuals or organisations such as the MCB (Muslim Council of Britain) and MEND (Muslim Engagement and Development),” and he has produced specific evidence to back up this claim.
As Fiyaz Mughal, the campaigner against anti-Muslim prejudice but an opponent of creating the offence of “Islamophobia,” writes in the report’s preface:
The hand-picked members of the Working Group did not include a single person who dissented from the view that a definition was needed, suggesting the whole exercise was a politically motivated fait accompli from the outset…The establishment of the group has given narratives created by Islamist groups a chance to influence social policy via the back-door.
The push to define and outlaw “Islamophobia” is all about cementing in the public mind the idea that British Muslims are in danger. But the Manchester terror plot has graphically illustrated exactly who is in danger in Britain and from whom. As the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester, Sir Stephen Watson, has said:
I think it’s a very important point to reflect upon that Jewish children are the only children in our country who day-to-day go to school behind large fences guarded by people with [hi-vis] jackets and where there are routine police patrols in and around those areas…We have to recognise that de facto our Jewish communities live in circumstances where they are more fearful and they have more justification to be fearful than anybody else.
While Muslims are in no danger at all from the Jewish community and very little serious danger from anyone else, Jews and others are in mortal danger from Muslim extremists.
In the Manchester case, two Islamic State supporters, Walid Saadaoui and Amar Hussein, were jailed for life. Saadaoui’s brother Bilel was also jailed for failing to disclose information about the plot.
At a large demonstration against antisemitism planned by Manchester’s Jewish community in 2024, Saadaoui and Hussein had plotted to disguise themselves as Jews and massacre as many as possible. To that end, they intended to arm themselves with four automatic AK-47 assault rifles, two handguns and 900 rounds of ammunition to gun down the assembled Jews before driving to attack Jewish communities in north Manchester.
The plot was foiled through exceptional police intelligence, particularly the courage of an undercover officer known as “Farouk” who posed as another accomplice.
The trial laid bare the pitiless and deranged hatred of Jews that drove these terrorists. Saadaoui told “Farouk”:
Here in Manchester, we have the biggest Jewish community. God willing we will degrade and humiliate them (in the worst way possible), and hit them where it hurts.
A report published a few days ago by the Community Security Trust, The Jihadist Plot to Murder Manchester’s Jews, lays out more such examples of the terrorists’ motive. Discussing his plan to attack Jews elsewhere in Manchester, Saadaoui said:
It is a must that we grab a Jewish person and slaughter him and remove his head and wipe (the floor). Rub blood on my body with his blood and throw it away. That is the least we can do.
Walking past a Jewish school he said:
I want to kill as many [Jews] as possible ... “We will go to poison them; we will put poison in the water… Their children, their cars and their houses.
The CST report reproduces an excerpt in English of a song produced by Islamic State that Saadaoui sent to “Farouk” in January 2024. Here’s the excerpt:
Thirdly, the murder crimes and awful scenes we see in Gaza, this is what the Jews are accustomed to over the ages, they are the most hating people towards Muslims.
God had showed them in his book, the almighty had said: ‘you will find the most hating to Muslims are the Jews and heretics.’
Let the Muslims expect no less than that, and the Jews of Palestine and the Jews in the rest of the world are the same.
They are a portion of the whole body and they are a unity, and separating them is a lie the patriotists and the nationalists tried to spread.
The noble Quran had exposed what are the characteristics of the Jews and scandalised them. It didn’t divide them into types and sections.
So it is a must that Muslims regard the Jews how God almighty had shown them. Muslims need to understand the nature of the battle against them in the light of the verses of the Noble Qur’an. Not how it has been proscribed by the empty books of politics and the twisted national references.
The battle with the Jews is a religious battle. It is not over the land, the soil or the borders. It is a battle that stemmed its legitimacy from the book of the traditions. Not from the international legitimacy of its laws.
The Muslim is fighting of the Jews because they have disbelieved in God almighty.
The Jews have had fought the prophets of God and confronted the Muslims as enemies.
In the history of the Jews there is nothing except stories about them killing our prophets of God and making up stories against them.
That was enough to fight them off even if they didn’t distain [sic] the Al-Aqsa mosque and Palestine. How have they done that and more.
This plot was motivated not by hatred of Israel or indignation about “Palestine”. It was motivated not by “the land, the soil or the borders,” but by the obsessive desire to exterminate Jews as laid down in Islamic theology. It was a genocidal conspiracy hatched in the heart of England against its Jews purely because they are Jews.
As Sir Stephen Watson said:
Throughout this trial, it was clear that the offenders’ hatred towards our Jewish community knew no bounds…All too recently in Sydney, and here in Manchester in October, we have felt the devastation of terrorism directed toward our Jewish community. A terrorist attack upon our Jewish friends and neighbours is an attack on us all, an affront to every decent person in our country.
Yet the mainstream media has totally ignored the centrality of Jew-hatred to the Manchester Islamist plot. It reported the basic facts; but the coverage totally failed to pay due regard to the nature of what was planned or the enormity of the police operation to stop it — described as “the largest scale and most complex covert counter-terrorism investigation ever conducted in the north-west” of England.
Outside the Jewish press, there have been no mainstream media editorials or commentaries expressing horror and disgust at what was revealed in this trial. There’s been no acknowledgement of what cries out for attention — that what motivates Islamist extremists and terrorists is the murderous hatred and dehumanisation of Jews. Not Israelis. Jews.
The Manchester terrorists were influenced by Isis, but this obsession with Jews goes far beyond Isis. It drives Hamas, al Qaeda and the regime in Tehran; it infuses Fatah and the Palestinian Authority which brainwashes Palestinian Arabs in this insanity from the cradle; to a greater or lesser degree, it’s a given throughout the whole Muslim world, all for one overwhelming reason — that it’s based in Islamic theological sources which are held to be the word of God.
No mainstream media outlet has seen fit to explore the anti-Jew dynamic behind the Manchester atrocity or Islamic extremism in general. No mainstream media outlet has seen fit to reproduce that appalling and so-very telling Isis song.
The reason for this reticence is that — as we’ve seen from the west’s response to the October 7 2023 atrocities in Israel — acknowledging that Muslims murder Jews because they are Jews gets in the way of the agenda. It rips off the pretence that Muslims only hate Jews because of Israel.
And so the media ignores the inconvenient truth about Muslim Jew-hatred, and continues instead to pump out its hysterical and obsessional lies and distortions about Israel on a script that the Islamists provide.
But what the media and other Israel-obsessives are missing is that hatred of Jews and hatred of the west are joined at the hip. To the Islamists, the destruction of the Jews is the necessary precursor to the conquest of the west. Islamic Jew-hatred is not only a mortal threat to Jews but also to everyone else.
Talking about Islamic Jew-hatred, however, already invites instant pariah status. If the government outlaws “Islamophobia,” this vital truth about the threat to civilisation will be forced underground.
Destroying lives won’t bring a society down. Destroying minds will.
