Unless the "Groypers" and Christian antisemitism are emphatically repudiated, the Republican party will implode

Jews being persecuted; Rochester Chronicle, 13th century

For years, the overwhelming danger from antisemitism has come from the “progressive” world, laundered through its support for the Palestinian cause.

Until recently, Jew-hatred on the right was largely confined to white supremacists, neo-Nazis and other fruitcakes who were relegated to the fringes of society. The control of the universities, the media and the rest of the cultural establishment by the “progressive” elites in both Britain and America made left-wing antisemitism infinitely more powerful and dangerous.

The left’s cultural power served to normalise and sanitise Jew-hatred, removing its stigma which was transferred instead to the collective victim of antisemitism, the State of Israel. After the Hamas-led atrocities in Israel on October 7 2023, this reached fever-pitch when the left formed an alliance with Islamists to demonise and delegitimise Israel with an unstoppable geyser of lies and fuel a tsunami of antisemitism thinly camouflaged as anti-Zionism.

Now, however, the situation in America has taken a serious step-change for the worse. The open, brazen antisemitism on the left has given permission to antisemites on the right to crawl out from underneath their stone.

Unvarnished, unapologetic expressions of paranoid and deranged demonisation of the Jews and conspiracy theories about their alleged sinister influence, accusing them falsely of dragging the US into war in the Middle East against American interests, are now washing around the net on right-wing podcasts and social media.

Many conservatives are in a ferment of alarm over the failure by mainstream Republican leaders to push back against the commentator Tucker Carlson, who has a huge following for his toxic podcasts platforming rabid antisemites like the foul-mouthed, white supremacist, Hitler and Stalin fanboy Nick Fuentes, as well as other Holocaust deniers, Nazi apologists and Israel-demonisers.

Far from repudiating such discourse as beyond the pale, Kevin Roberts, president of America’s leading conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation, actually stuck up for Carlson and his platforming of Fuentes on the grounds of free speech.

Since then, the crisis on the right has got significantly worse. It even threatens to plunge America into a particular darkness that it has never previously known but which remains a historic and enduring stain upon Britain and Europe.
