What is the link between Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the ancient Israelite King David and the currently parlous condition of American society? Such a link not only exists but is more significant than many might imagine.

Let’s start with last week’s Platinum Jubilee in the UK marking the Queen’s remarkable 70 years on the throne. The two day celebration, which brought thousands of people onto the streets for processions and street parties, revealed an emotional bond between the Queen and her people that was so intense as to feel almost tangible. 

I tried to explain this bond in my column (£) this week for The Times of London. But the significance for America and its current woes goes even further.
