The American history professor Jeffrey Herf has published in Tablet an important piece tracing the Nazi roots of Islamist fascism and antisemitism.
Herf has a distinguished record in charting this relationship. Over the past few years, other researchers have uncovered the close links between Hitler and the Mufti of Jerusalem in the 1930s and 1940s, Haj Amin al Husseini.
What is less well known is the link between al Husseini and Hassan al Banna, the founder of the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood. Al Banna, himself an ardent admirer of Hitler since he first read Mein Kampf, compared al Husseini to Mohammed and Christ.
Also very notable is how knowledge of this Nazi-Islamist axis has become all but lost to public view, with shattering consequences for the west.
