Support for the Palestinian cause isn’t merely lining up the west in support of an agenda to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. It isn’t merely laundering as “anti-Zionism” the ancient and atavistic desire to stick it to the Jews. It’s also destroying the west’s moral compass.
Last month, the British government banned the group Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation. It did so following the group’s attack on military aircraft at RAF Brize Norton. This was but the latest in a series of violent attacks since 2020 — all of which met the legal test of terrorism — against the defence industry, financial firms, charities, universities and government buildings.
Since then, there’s been a determined attempt to make this ban unenforceable. Hundreds of people, ranging from leftie troublemakers and the pro-Hamas keffiyeh brigade to elderly middle-class folk who look like they’ve just popped out from arranging the flowers in the church nave, have joined demonstrations to protest against the ban with the intention of overwhelming the police and justice system.
That hasn’t happened, but more than 700 people have now been arrested and the demonstrations are continuing.
