The British government’s chief medical officer and chief scientist, professors Chris Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance, told the country on Monday that Covid-19 infections were doubling every seven days. If this continued, it would result in 50,000 new infections per day by mid-October and 200 deaths per day a couple of weeks later.
